Valspar paint colour match8/28/2023 ![]() 'With whites and off whites, they all have different undertones,' explains Alex. Just like any other color, there are a plethora of different whites from warm tones to cooler ones, making it especially hard to match. If you think there's only one shade of white, think again. Stores in the US, such as Ace, also offer custom paint matching. To do this, you can visit any B&Q store in the UK with a small sample (at least 0.2 inches) and the Valspar team will generate a unique color formula in their interior or exterior paint. 'This means that whether you’ve forgotten the name of the color you decorated your room with, or you want to color drench your living room with the exact same tone as the sofa, Valspar can easily create your custom color of choice,' he adds. 'Valspar’s colour matching technology can scan, match, and mix any color the eye can see: that’s 2.2 million shades,' says Tobie Lewis, Head of Marketing, Brand and Digital Communications at Valspar paints. Some larger hardware stores allow you to get a professional paint match through a color mixing service. As long as you don't mind putting up with blotchy walls for a while, this method might help you match your colors more accurately as it will probably allow you to see them in both direct, shaded and artificial light. Then apply small patches in a hidden area till it matches.'ĭesigner Lucinda Chambers' more unconventional way of testing paint samples involves larger swatches to give you a better idea of how they look in different light. 'I would recommend making a small mixture with either white if it’s lighter or if you’re trying to achieve darker, warmer tones then a brown or grey. 'Have a few separate trays of paint so you can add a lighter or darker color to the color you’re trying to match,' says Alex. Find a hidden spot on your wall, such as behind the bed or a chest of drawers, and paint the samples in a small area. Start by purchasing several samples that look similar to your original color. If total accuracy isn't vital to you, you could color match using paint samples at home. Perhaps I missed a few of these filled patches when I was touching up again with Dulux, resulting in the Valspar being applied directly over the filler.(Image credit: Benjamin Moore) How to color match at home using samples It also washes away if you wipe it with a wet cloth! So I brushed it instead. However, it leaves a very fine powder after sanding. The Filler I used was EasyFill, which is great for filling shallow imperfections and sanding back to make the filled area dissapear once painted. Looking at the back of one of the inch sized "peels" it does look a bit powdery. A COMBINATIONAL PROBLEM? Because of Valspar's low adesion, the surface needs to be perfect. Its so hot at the moment, the paint is drying quickly. It says on the website FAQs takes 7 days to cure, although I doubt it will get much better. I can sand it, wash it, do anything to it, and its never peeled on me. So I paint everything with Dulux, do any filling, then paint over that with more Dulux. I've NEVER had paint do that! When I decorate a room I like to get it back to a blank canvas first. I can litterally cut around them with a scalpel and peel the paint away. I'm still fixing all the problem areas before I put the second tin on. After the 1st coat it looked horrific, especially over areas that had been repaired. ![]() For a modest sized bedroom I have had to buy two large tins, 10 litres, of Classic Matt Storybook Sundown, totalling about £90. ![]() POOR COVERAGE "Cover your walls quickly, easily, and evenly." says Valspar's video on YouTube. I love the colour selection, and the soft sheen (even on Classic Matt.) BUT I am getting really frustrated and disappointed with this paint. ![]()

Solidworks xdesign8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() Access to thousands of supplier components from PartSupply with a simple drag and drop into your design.A streamlined sketching environment with a new ability to enter a dimension value during entity creation. Here are 2 fairly major “what new” items for 3DCreator (xDesign) in that most recent release: But don’t worry, we just had a Functional Delivery (point release) about a month ago! 3DX 2021 FD07. Because there is not a beta or anything for it however, we won’t really know what is “new” in the 3DEXPERIENCE Products until sometime in mid-November. SOLIDWORKS xDesign lives within the 3D Creator Role offered on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. The software isn’t locally installed, so it can run on a Chromebook and does not require a Windows operating system. Although this year for the first time they ARE coordinating the “major release (2022)” of BOTH products to Thanksgiving Weekend, there are 6-7 fairly major updates for 3DEXPERIENCE throughout a year (about every 2 months). xDesign is an app that runs on any device that can access the internet via a web browser. 3DEXPERIENCE is on a different release schedule than traditional SOLIDWORKS. For 3DEXPERIENCE Products, things are a little different however. We are able to discuss these things intelligently because the BETA version of SOLIDWORKS 2022 has been out for a few months and the What’s New features are all very well documented. At Solidworks World 2016, Dassault Systemes unveiled Xdesign, a browser-based 3D parametric CAD design tool, pictured here running on an iPad Pro. You use the Import and Export commands to convert the components into the formats that SOLIDWORKS and xDesign can use. If you are following this tutorial, you will need to download the files here. Some of these workflows and functions have made their way into SOLIDWORKS as well, like the Shaded Sketch Contour and Breadcrumb features. Components created in 3DEXPERIENCE apps like xDesign are saved as physical products in collaborative spaces and seen in the 3DSpace app. For this tasty biscuit themed tutorial, I wanted to play around with modeling custom cogs for a wooden toy design. There are a several workflow scenarios that you can do in xDesign, that do not exist in SOLIDWORKS. He also introduces new apps in the engineering design process. As you have probably noticed, most all of the blogs here during this time of year are focused on the “What’s New” in SOLIDWORKS 2022. Do SOLIDWORKS and xDesign have the same file type No. Through the SOLIDWORKS xDesign Lesson series, David helps educators understand the differences and similarities between xDesign and SOLIDWORKS through simple examples. ![]() Dplyr summarize n lines8/28/2023 ![]() ![]() The function summarise() is the equivalent To note: for some functions, dplyr foresees both an American EnglishĪnd a UK English variant. # 7 Northern fur seal Callorhinus carni 19 # 4 Greater short-tailed shrew Blarina omni 20 The combination of grouping, mutating and ungrouping again. # 7 Northern fur seal Callorhinus carni 83Įven more interesting is add_count() which takes a variable asĪrgument, and adds a column which the number of observations. # 4 Greater short-tailed shrew Blarina omni 83 More interesting is the add_tally() function which automatically addsĪ column with the overall number of observations. The Shadow Aero was another model that drew on classic cruiser styling with big sweeping fenders and a huge headlight, this can be quite easily compared style wise to an early Harley Davidson Electra Glide. The ACE was there to remind people it was as American as any other bike made in the US. The Shadow 1100’s were all built in Honda’s Ohio factory for both the domestic and international markets, as was the Valkyrie and the GL1000 Gold Wings. The ACE models were built to hammer down on the fact that the Honda Shadow 1100 was an American-built motorcycle and always had been since 1985. The Honda Sabre was considered the hot rod of the line up and the ACE being a modern reincarnation of the classic 50’s and 60’s cruisers was an early retro motorcycle. However, boring in my book doesn’t always mean ‘bad’, it can just mean that it might get lost in the crowd – which might suit some people anyway.Įach Shadow variation was just slightly different from the other with the Spirit models being inspired by old school choppers with a bobbed rear fender and pull back handlebars. It did air on the side of being conservative and maybe a bit too safe, it didn’t have an aggressive edge or anything to make it stand out against the competition.Īs is typical of Honda, you could say it was too good, too perfect, it exceeded the design brief and the bi-product of this meant it could be labelled as ‘boring’. The very first Shadow 1985-96 (also known as the Classic) played it safe in terms of styling, the proportions were all correct, lines were right, and it was a very like-able design. ![]() So while some may have considered Honda motorcycles to be just copies of the originals, I would argue that they were just doing what was popular in that market in that era for a specific (US) audience and offering an alternative option. The fact is however, that Honda wasn’t trying to hide the fact they were coming after all those in the cruiser market and there were specific styling cues that dictated that market. Various models that followed were more creative drawing on hot rod styling and custom bobber designs for inspiration. The consensus on release was that the first Honda Shadow 1100 was divisive in terms of styling, arguably relying a little too much on American inspiration and lacking some original character, some loved it but others wanted to see a bit more originality. In terms of design it was a completely classic cruiser, the intention was to make the appearance of the bike match the ‘made in America’ ethos along with the rumble of an authentic V-twin. Honda Shadow ACE (American Classic Edition) 1995-1999. ![]() The Shadow title was adopted by several models through the years: Key MilestonesĪmerican Classic Edition also known as ACE The model was received well, there was now an alternative V-twin available and despite being cheaper than the Harley Davidson competition, it was a serious bike, made in the USA with strict quality control and strong performance. The Honda Shadow 1100 was the biggest V-twin motorcycle from a Japan manufacturer launched in the US. The VT 1100 was developed (VT – V-twin) and was ready to compete with the big players from Harley Davidson on their own soil. Realizing this wasn’t a sustainable option the US lifted the import restrictions and in 1985 the Shadow 750 was back.Īs CycleWorld reported in 1984, the Shadow 700 had been the best-selling motorcycle in the US that year, Honda were on to something with the new V-twins.Īlongside the revived 750 was a new bigger, more serious motorcycle, a big 1100 V-twin. Honda responded by quickly producing a 700 cc version. In 1983 Honda launched the Honda Shadow 750 a middleweight cruiser directly targeting the US audience, the US quickly shut this down for a period of time though by placing restrictions on motorcycle imports 750 cc and over. Many Honda motorcycles have been deliberately designed and produced with the US market in mind, the Shadow is one of those model lines.
